“When you enter the Land of Cana’an, which I give you as an inheritance, I will give Tsara’as in the homes…” said HaShem. It sure sounds like HaShem is giving His people a gift. HaShem gives the gift of life, the gift of health, the gift of the Torah… and now – the gift of Tsara’as?!
Indeed Tsara’as on one’s house could be a treasured gift!
Before Bnei Yisrael arrived in Eretz Yisrael, the houses were occupied by a nation called the Amorim. These people used to hide precious treasures in the walls of their homes. Bnei Yisrael then moved into these very same homes.
When the house was afflicted with Tsara’as, the walls needed to be demolished. Imagine the surprise of the Jewish homeowner when he discovered piles of gold within his walls!
Indeed, HaShem gave the Tsara’as affliction, as if it was a gift…because it was a gift!
