Rambam #3 – Look at the Bright Side
The Rambam in his Mishneh Torah makes it a point to end on a good note, so after talking about the terrible sin of Lashon HaRa and the punishment of Tsara’as, he concludes with these uplifting words:
…In contrast (to those who speak Lashon HaRa), the speech of proper Jewish people should only be about Torah and wisdom. Therefore, HaShem assists them and grants them merit because of it…
Mishneh Torah, Hilchos Tumas Tsara’as, Chapter 16, Halacha 10
Nowadays, in our times, with today’s state-of-the-art technology, it’s easier than ever to spread Lashon HaRa. With just one tap of the finger, information can catapult across the globe in a split second, reaching millions of people.
Although nowadays we don’t have HaShem’s miraculous Tsara’as warning signal, we still can learn important lessons from our Parsha.
Let’s follow in the footsteps of the Rambam and focus on the positive:
If Lashon HaRa has negative effects, one can only imagine the positive influence Lashon Tov can have, on the whole-wide world!
Indeed, never before in history have the words of Torah spread to more people than ever before, and in all directions – N.E.W.S. North, East, West and South! That sure is good NEWS!
