INSIGHT: Tazria and Metsora – The Big Divide

Tazria and Metsora – The Big Divide

Metsora –The Tsara’as-Free Guide

Last week, in Parshas Tazria, we learned about an unusual miraculous disease. It happened to a person who spread Lashon HaRa, evil gossip. In Hebrew it’s called Tsara’as; in English it’s leprosy – but it isn’t the same kind of leprosy that exists nowadays. In this week’s Parsha, Parshas Metsora, we’ll learn more about how a person becomes purified and rids himself of this awful disease.

Tazria and Metsora – The Big Divide

Although Parshas Tazria and Parshas Metsora are divided into two separate Parshiyos, you would think they should be one Parsha. After all, they are both about Tsara’as.

So why break it into two Parshiyos?

Well, Parshas Tazria is all about the Tsara’as disease – how people get it on their skin and even on their clothes. On the other hand, Parshas Metsora is dedicated to the healing process.

So simply put:

Tazria = disease.
Metsora = healing.
