Sefer Bereishis — Bereishis

TESTER4

Title

There are many ways to express gratitude:

Saying “thank you” or “thanks” after someone passes the potatoes at the dinner table is proper, but it’s certainly not sufficient in all situations:

“On behalf of the owners of our company, and in gratitude for the wonderful work you have done for us, we are presenting you a luxurious home in the center of Jerusalem, a fancy-shmancy car of your choice, two round-trip tickets to anywhere in the world – all expenses paid – and last not but not least, an entire set of Shazak books and DVDs!”

“Thanks.”

“Huh?! Is that all you can say? A Chutzpah! Is that what you call “Hakaras HaTov?”

Now that Bnei Yisrael were about to receive the best present ever – the holy Land of Israel – Moshe Rabbeinu began teaching them Hakaras HaTov, how to give proper thanks to HaShem. It’s by performing the Mitzvah called Bikkurim, translated as “the first,” and Parshas Ki Savo begins with a detailed description. Read on to learn all about this special gift brought from the Shivas HaMinim, the 7 special foods of Israel for which the Land is praised.

Blessings!

Moshe first blessed his beloved people, “If you make sure to obey HaShem and always keep His Mitzvos, you will be lifted above all other nations! Enormous blessings will be showered upon you. Even if you somehow run away from the blessings, VeHisigoocha – they will catch up to you!”

“VeHisigoocha – that’s an interesting word. It also means ‘you will understand.’”

“Yes. Sometimes people don’t even understand that there is a blessing from HaShem right under their nose!”

“Hey… can you two fellows please stop talking so we can listen to what Moshe Rabbeinu has to say?!”

Moshe continued, “Your cities and your farms will be blessed, and you will always have plenty of food to eat. HaShem will cause your enemies to run away from you in fear, because they will see that HaShem’s name is upon you!”
