After the dust settled, HaShem spoke to Moshe, “Bnei Yisrael need to be reminded that only a Kohen Gadol is allowed to bring Ketores. Tell Aharon’s son Elazar to gather up all the copper pans that Korach’s followers used for their Ketores. He shall flatten them out and shall make them into a new covering for the big altar that stands in the courtyard of the Mishkan.”
Elazar did exactly as he was instructed. One by one, he gathered all 250 pans. Then he pounded them flat, and hammered them onto the outside of the Mizbei’ach. Now, whenever Bnei Yisrael would see the altar, they would be inspired to follow Moshe and his Torah, and never rebel as Korach and his followers did.
