Paraoh’s Army Drowns
Meanwhile, back at the Egyptian camp, the cloud of darkness had lifted and the army was getting impatient.
“Enough waiting!” shouted Paraoh. “Now is the time for the complete triumph of the Egyptian Empire! Charioteers… Onward ho!”
The Egyptian warriors were riding their chariots with all their might. Finally, they reached the Yam Suf and what they witnessed utterly shocked them. Their slaves were escaping!
Assuming the waters would remain split for them, they raced after Bnei Yisrael, straight into the water tunnels.
“Full speed ahead!” they cried as they whipped their horses.
But the ground for them was sticky and muddy. Their horses’ hooves and chariots’ wheels got stuck in the hot mud.
Still, they pressed on. Finally, when the last of Bnei Yisrael stepped out safely on the other side of the sea, Moshe once again lifted his staff over the sea. The standing waters came crashing down upon Paraoh’s army, hurling them down to a bottom of the sea and drowning them all.
