INSIGHT: What Happened to the Jar of Mann?

Show and Tell

Show and Tell

Moshe held up a jar of Mann for all Bnei Yisrael to see. He turned to his people and said, “I have an important message from HaShem. Look at this jar, my fellow Jews. Look very carefully. Inside is one measurement of Mann – a measurement of exactly an omer. This is the food HaShem fed you in the desert when He took you out of the land of Egypt.”

Bnei Yisrael were spellbound as they gazed on the jar in Moshe’s hand.

And Moshe continued, “Let this jar of Mann be kept for generations to come. There will come a time that your descendants will find it difficult to dedicate their time to learn our holy Torah. They will excuse themselves by telling HaShem that they don’t have time to learn for they are busy earning a living. At that point, HaShem will instruct his prophet to show them this jar of Mann. The message will be crystal clear; study Torah and have no fear – Hashem will provide you and your families with all your needs, just as he has sustained us with this miraculous Mann.”

Indeed, many years later, the prophet Yirmiyahu (Jerimiah) rebuked Bnei Yisrael for not learning enough Torah. The prophet showed them this special jar of Mann, and delivered HaShem’s message, “Trust in HaShem. He will provide for you just as he has provided for our ancestors in the scorching desert!”

Shazak insight

What Happened to the Jar of Mann?

Many years ago, the wise King Shlomo, built some secret tunnels underneath the Beis HaMikdash, Holy Temple. Later, King Yoshiyahu, saw that the Temple was about to be destroyed, so he hid the holy ark (the Aron HaKodesh) together with the special jar of Mann, and placed them safely in one of those tunnels.

We hope and pray that the Beis HaMikdash will soon be rebuilt, and once again will we be able to see with our very own eyes the amazing ark, the jar of Mann, and so much more!
