Reuven left his brothers for some time to go back home and take care of his father. The other brothers sat down near the pit to enjoy their meal. Just then, a caravan of traveling Arab spice merchants passed by.
“Hey!” Yehudah cried out. “What do we gain from letting Yosef die in the pit? After all is he our own flesh and blood.”
“What do you suggest?” asked his brothers.
“I have a great idea! Let’s sell our kid brother to those Arab merchants. We’ll make plenty of money and let them do whatever they want with him. Agreed?”
“Agreed!” exclaimed the brothers, as they went to pull Yosef out of the pit. Miracle of miracles, Yosef came out unharmed from the dangerous pit filled with snakes and scorpions.
In a flash, the deal was made with the Arab merchants, who then sold Yosef to a some traders from Midyan, who, in turn, sold him to a wealthy Egyptian.
