Moshe was almost convinced to go on his mission, but not completely.
“What shall I say when Bnei Yisrael ask me, ‘What is the name of the One who sent you’?”
“Eheya Asher Eheya – I will be what I will be”, answered HaShem. “I will be with you at all times – even the hard times and guide you in every way.”
“Now,” continued HaShem. “When you get to Egypt gather all the elders of Bnei Yisrael. Relate to them My promise, that I guarantee their redemption out of slavery with miracles and wonders. I will smite the Egyptians and the children of Israel will leave the land with awesome wealth.”
“But Bnei Yisrael will never believe that You spoke to me,” argued Moshe. “Why would they listen to me?”
“They will listen, Moshe. The Bnei Yisrael are Maaminim Bnei Maaminim – they are believers and children of believers,” answered HaShem. “Nevertheless, I will give you 3 signs, to prove that you are indeed sent by Me. First of all, Moshe, tell me – what do you have in your hand?”
“Throw your staff to the ground,” commanded HaShem. Moshe threw it on the ground and the staff turned into a snake! Then HaShem commanded Moshe to grab the snake by its tail and it turned back into a staff.
“Now, for the second sign. Place your hand on your chest.” Moshe did as he was told and when his hand came out, it had turned snow-white with leprosy!
HaShem then commanded Moshe to put his hand on his chest a second time. This time, it turned completely back to its normal color.
“I will give you a third sign, just in case Bnei Yisrael still do not believe that I have chosen you as My messenger. Take some water from the Nile River and pour it on the ground. The water will turn into blood when it reaches the dry land.”
