Yaakov’s Plight

Yaakov’s Plight

Yaakov cried out, “Woe is me! First Yosef, then Shimon… and now Binyamin?!”

Reuven spoke up, “Father, I guarantee, on the life of my two sons, that absolutely no harm will come to Binyamin. Let him go with us!”

Yaakov was shocked at Reuven’s offer and thought to himself, “What kind of guarantee is that? Reuven’s two children are also my grandchildren. Wouldn’t I, the grandfather, want them to be safe and protected?”

Yaakov then responded, “It’s out of the question! Binyamin remains with me and I forbid anyone to take him on the dangerous journey to Egypt. If anything were to happen to him, G-d forbid, it would surely send me to my grave.”
